First discovered by Amerigo Vespucci and later visited by Christopher Columbus, the Caribbean is a region of the Americas that comprises the Caribbean Sea, its surrounding coasts, and its islands. The region lies southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and of the North American mainland, east of Central America, and north of South America. Several of these luxury travel destinations are close enough to the southern United States to allow quick getaways for couples, families, groups or adventurous singles.
The region has more than 700 islands, islets, reefs and cays. Three island arcs delineate the eastern and northern edges of the Caribbean Sea. The Greater Antilles to the north, and the Lesser Antilles and Leeward Antilles to the south and east. Together with the nearby Lucayan Archipelago, these island arcs make up the West Indies. The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands are sometimes considered to be a part of the Caribbean, even though they are neither within the Caribbean Sea nor on its border. Several regions of mainland South and Central America are also often seen as part of the Caribbean because of their political and cultural ties with the region. These include: Belize, Nicaragua, the Caribbean region of Colombia, Cozumel, the Yucatán Peninsula, Margarita Island, and The Guianas.
The air and sea temperatures change little over the course of the year making it a comfortable get-away in all seasons. The region does have a "dry" season and a "wet" season with the first six months of the year being drier than the final six months.
The region contains a diverse range of climate and culture. The predominant climate of the area is tropical. Lowland areas near the Caribbean Sea from Costa Rica north to Belize contain tropical rainforest climates. Visiting these locations provides beautiful beaches, food inspired by the varied cultural makeup of the communities, access to the second largest tropical reef in the world, and many species native to the rainforest such as macaws, leopards, and monkeys.
Other areas, such as St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Dominica, Saint Thomas, and Martinique possess rugged mountain ranges. Here you find beautiful white sand beaches, extraordinary diving and snorkeling opportunities, lush tropical forests, and waterfalls.
Tropical rainforest or white sand beach, these backdrops provide a perfect setting for a destination wedding, romantic honeymoon, bachelor or bachelorette party, or family vacation. Many destinations specialize in each of these objectives. We will get to know you and suggest an itinerary that matches your unique expectation while ensuring you get the best value available at your desired price-point.
There are many ways to get to this oasis so close to the United States. Travel may be by air or sea. Several cruise lines frequent the region and range in size from large to small size ships. While service on these vessels are top notch from a world-wide base of employees, the smaller ships tend to have larger staterooms and a greater employee to customer ratio with more included amenities. Generally, travelling by cruise ship allows a sampling of a few to a handful of these luxury travel destinations depending on the duration of the cruise. The ship usually arrives to port in the morning and docks for clients to disembark and spend approximately six hours exploring the location. Several prepackaged excursions are available to facilitate various interests allowing plenty of time to return to the ship prior to departure.
Traveling by air is preferred if you're interested in exploring the location in greater depth. Accommodations are available at any service level and price-point preferred by the guest. The adventurous may be interested in renting a car, taking part in an organized tour, or using public transportation to experience the culture of the destination. Others may prefer an all-inclusive resort offering meal plans and activities for all ages and activity level.
We can provide access to cookie-cutter itineraries but we would love to tailor an itinerary specific to you to allow you to get to know this beautiful region steeped in history, culture, and varied topographies and ecosystems. Tell us your travel inspiration and we'll create an itinerary to match it.
